Our Mission
Support We Provide
The effects of abuse can be long-lasting and far-reaching. For some people, the impact is emotional and personal. For others, it can affect housing, finances, relationships, health and everyday wellbeing.
Every person’s circumstances are different, and support is tailored to individual needs.
Practical Assistance
Lifeboat may be able to assist with:
- Utility bills, including electricity, gas and water.
- Telephone and internet expenses.
- Essential household costs.
- Food and grocery assistance.
- Medical and health-related expenses.
- Transport and travel costs.
- Temporary or emergency accommodation.
- Other urgent expenses that may arise during times of hardship.
Requests for assistance are considered individually and subject to available resources.
Support and Understanding
Practical assistance is only one part of the support available through Lifeboat.
Many people simply need someone who will listen, understand and treat them with dignity and respect. Lifeboat provides a supportive environment where people can talk about their experiences, share concerns and feel heard without judgement.
Support means different things to different people. Sometimes it involves practical assistance; at other times it may be a conversation, a listening ear, or help connecting with appropriate services.
Connection
For many survivors, it can take years – and sometimes decades – before they are able to speak about what happened to them or seek support.
The effects of abuse can be isolating, leaving people feeling alone, misunderstood or disconnected from others. Family members can also experience these challenges as they come to understand and cope with the impact abuse has had on someone they love.
Lifeboat provides a trusted point of contact for survivors and their families. Through listening, understanding and ongoing support, we help people know they are not alone and that support is available when it is needed.
By maintaining respectful and supportive relationships, Lifeboat offers encouragement and reassurance to those who may otherwise feel isolated.
