Anyone affected by abuse by Catholic Church clergy can contact Lifeboat, regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred. This includes survivors, family members, partners, carers and others who have been impacted by that abuse.

Do I need to be Catholic to receive support?

No. Lifeboat supports people regardless of their personal beliefs or circumstances.

What kind of support does Lifeboat provide?

Lifeboat provides practical help, support, advocacy, referrals to other services and opportunities for social connection. Support is tailored to individual circumstances and needs.

Is my contact with Lifeboat confidential?

Yes. Lifeboat is committed to treating all enquiries with sensitivity, respect and confidentiality. Personal information is handled carefully, and privacy is respected at all times.

Do I have to tell my whole story?

No. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing. We will listen and work with you at a pace that feels right for you.

What happens when I first contact Lifeboat?

One of our team members will listen to your situation and discuss how Lifeboat may be able to assist. There is no obligation, and you are free to decide what level of involvement feels right for you.

Does Lifeboat provide financial assistance?

Yes. Abuse can have a significant impact on families as well as survivors. Lifeboat recognises these effects and welcomes contact from family members seeking support or guidance.

How can I support Lifeboat?

There are many ways to support Lifeboat, including making a donation, donating a vehicle, participating in the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme, volunteering your time or assisting with fundraising activities.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes. Lifeboat Survivors Support is a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia.
